I was alarmed to see that CM Thompson posted this to the Town Announce list:

Subject: [RP Town Announce] Meeting announcement - Town Council 9/7/2011 at

The Town Council of Riverdale Park will meet on September 7, 2011, at 7:30
pm in Town Hall, 5008 Queensbury Road, Riverdale, MD, 20737.

"The topic to be discussed is proposed development and location of a Whole
Foods market, and in particular the conditions required by the Town Council
to support such commercial development.

"It is anticipated that the Town Council will meet in closed session under
statutory authority D of the Maryland Open Meetings Act, "Consider a matter
that concerns the proposal for a business or industrial organization to
locate in Prince George's County.""

I'm sure it's totally legal, but it is concerning to me. The developer wants
to build far more than a "Whole Foods market." I wonder whether this
discussion would occur if the proposal were for Kmart or Shoppers Food
Warehouse?

It doesn't seem fair that this was posted at 11:45 p.m. the night before the
meeting.
