Why is the Town of Riverdale Park concerned about the appearance of the 
old gas station at the corner of Baltimore Ave and Madison Street.  This 
property is located adjacent to the Hyattsville Arts District 
development.  Pulte Home Corp is in the process of building hundreds of 
town houses and retail stores in this area, a majority of this 
development is located within the City of Hyattsville.  Only the 4500 
blk of Madison Street is located in the Town of Riverdale Park.  Why 
hasn't the Town of Riverdale Park approached Pulte Home Corp or the City 
of Hyattsville to purchase this property?

Has anyone considered testing the soil of this property before it is 
purchased.  Remember it was a Exxon gas station years ago.  Is the soil 
contaminated with hazardous petroleum products?  The State of Maryland 
appraises this property at approximately $450,000.  With the current 
development in this area, a fair market price could exceed over 
1,000,000.  Does the Town of Riverdale Park have a big enough check book?

As a resident of over 33 years of Riverdale Park, I think the Town 
Council should vote no to the purchase of this property  (Jey's Auto  
5731 Baltimore Ave)
