I find a lot of the men on town talk are bullies or maybe women haters. that seems to be the prevailing culture.

I am shocked and saddened that what Mr. Farrington says here, especially the last few sentences, is permitted on this list. Sir, you are indeed a bully.

If I understand you correctly,
1.) You can call me patronizing, and make a patently-falseaccusation of me using an insulting logical fallacy that you clearly do not understand*, and that's you speaking your mind, perhaps even speaking truth to power (though I'm just some guy who owns a house and does NOT want any power).
2.) But me saying that it's offensive to call hundreds of hours of hard work; dozens of well-publicized, open meetings, creating hundreds of pages of evidence, a public relations ploy, and a call to please be involved in continuing to shape the outcome, just more of the same, is "hurling an attack," and "closing down discourse," and
3.) Me saying it is also offensive that you would do the above above is as well, and
4.) Me refusing to be silenced by your attacks is in and of itself an attack on you.
If this is correct, I would like to thank you for rarely saying anything on Town Talk, and invite you to keep up the good work. I bet you could post even less, if you work at it.

>Well, here we go, case in point. Mr. Farrington's response and tone speaks for itself. No, you don't have the authority to stop anyone from saying anything, but I can tell you, if we were talking face to face and you spoke to me like that, you would certainly shut the conversation down in a moment, And asking me to look up a word is terribly patronizing. That would shut down the conversation pretty quickly too. I don't need to look up the meaning of the words I use, I know what they mean before I use them.

>My friends gave up hundreds of hours working hard on something they really think is good for their town. I disagreed, and disagreed so strongly that I mobilized. I carried petitions, I went to meetings, I sent emails, I worked hard against this. Because I disagreed, and strongly. However, saying that their work was a public-relations dog-and-pony show. Is. EXTREMELY. Offensive. Saying so is not an attack, and it didn't close down anything. Guess what? I do not have the authority to keep anyone from saying anything. But when you insult my friends, I'm gonna stand up and say how I feel about it. I get to, and I'm not sorry. And, I find your poorly-considered, emotional message ... extremely offensive.

>>I usually keep my opinions to myself, or at least I don't share them here anymore, because bullying and bashing is all too common on this list and frankly, who needs it? Just because you prefaced your statement by saying "you're allowed to feel that way", which I find highly patronizing, you don't get to hurl ad hominem attacks and close down open discourse like that.

>>Ms Collins, I myself most decidedly did not say any of those mean things. I did not bash
you. I said simply that I found your remarks about "the politicians" and their
motives offensive. This was prefaced by saying you're allowed to feel that
way and say so. Not to put too fine a point on it, but *you* bashed. I said, roughly, "Hey now,
they don't deserve that, and it's mean." And now I'm getting
private mail calling me a meanie and you're getting public mail saying
you're being bashed. There's actually a lot of this, on this list. Best regards,
Andrew
