Not to repeat my diatribe posted elsewhere, but I overlook a point.
In many of the Legislative meeting, Working Sessions held by the Mayor
and Council I and often the reporter from Patch were alone with the Town
Council.
After the Council changes the order of the agenda so that people asking
for permits for fences, festivals, street closings, driveway cuts, etc.
or wishing to make a presentation, can speak -- when they get what they
want, everyone leaves.
Leaves the Council and Mayor to deal with the hard? boring? nitty gritty
business of formal legislation, Town finances, security, contracts,
cable franchises, making a town run and this year details of letters,
procedure concerning the Cafritz property and working with other
communities. Working until 11pm, 12, 1am not unusual.
The noted exception to the void this Jan-May was Mr & Ms Kelly. Local
businessman running his own small business. Every time he comes to a
Town meeting he is not getting any sleep or getting ready for the next
days work. Every "District Council" meeting he attended he was not
working and I'm sure his business suffered. But there they were making
sure their views were heard. The Kelly's and I don't agree on several
issues. However, I have his business card for when I get around to some
plumbing work I need done, because I hear his thoughtful reasoned
concerns for this Town. We come to different conclusions, but I respect
his. Besides, I am glad to have company at the council meetings.
