Friends,
Please see below for some additional details. Also, please note that
information is very fluid at this time and due to severe loss of power
throughout the County not all cooling stations are yet operational.
Riverdale Elem. was too small to handle all displaced families from Park
Tanglewood.
Take care and I'll try to keep you posted as I hear more from the County.

Dear Friends,
Last night's storm was powerful and has produced a number of problems. Many
homes in our region are without power. Pepco and BG&E crews are working
hard to restore power. Due to loss of power, WSSC has instituted water
restrictions to conserve their water reserves until they can run on full
power. Please see the WSSC message below.
In District 3, we have 500 residents of a Riverdale Park apartment building
sheltering at Northwestern HS. Parts of the building's roof blew off during
the storm.
There is one cooling station currently set up at the Prince George's Sports
and Learning Complex at 8001 Sheriff Road in Landover. With high
temperatures, please take precautions to stay as cool as possible. Please
check on neighbors, particularly our seniors and those with any medical
conditions.
I have been in contact with Fire Chief Marc Bashoor, and will be in
communication with other agencies this morning. I want to thank our Fire
Fighters/EMS, Police, Department of Public Works, Department of
Environmental Resources, utilities and others who have been working through
the night and will continue their good work to ensure our health and
safety.
Please let me know if there is anything my staff or I can help with in this
storm's aftermath: eolson at co.pg.md.us
Be safe,

WSSC Mandatory Water Restriction-ALL Customers*
The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) is issuing mandatory
water restrictions for all Montgomery and Prince George's County customers,
residential and commercial. Last night's severe storms knocked out power to
WSSC's two water filtration plants and other facilities. Crews from BG&E
and PEPCO are working to restore power.
The restrictions are mandatory to preserve fire fighting capabilities and
to make the water supply last while repairs are underway. There is no
estimated time for when the plants will be online and producing water
again, but both power companies have assured us that WSSC is one of their
highest priorities.
Due to extremely high temperatures, water consumption has been at its
highest this year. And, normally we would use the overnight hours to refill
the system. But, last night's storms prevented that from occurring.
Until repairs are complete, it is imperative that all business and
residential customers restrict their water use. If customers do not reduce
their water use significantly, it may be necessary to issue a Boil Water
Advisory that would affect all of our customers.
Customers need to:
· Stop all outside water use - no watering lawns, shrubs, flowers; no
washing cars, no topping off swimming pools
· Use water only as necessary - i.e., shorter showers and turn off faucets
after washing hands
· Limit flushing toilets (do not flush after every use)
· Postpone using washing machines and dishwashers
WSSC will provide updates through the local media and through
www.wsscwater.com<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001vQwWFPmENvOrFv_2TTnE93YZ0NmuYQ5P2iPEPccxVUMrnToWx9kyVyObU57nWKuwgidH5F54wRDYdCqU2gJc951VbKQbVK_lGTktSZJFQfM=>
until mandatory restrictions are no longer necessary.
