These days we are busy putting together our annual Earth Day Cleanup and Celebration,
scheduled for Saturday, April 21, at more than 30 sites around the watershed. Will
you be one of more than 2500 volunteers to help out in this landmark "spring cleaning"
event?
We will be celebrating the river throughout the month of April, with a variety of
events both indoors and out. Stay tuned for more information about the exciting

Prince George's County Bag Fee Moves Ahead!

Plastic bags litter the banks of the Northwest Branch

Great news from Annapolis this morning, as the Prince George's County delegation
 to the Maryland House of Delegates voted in favor of HB895! This bill will give
 the County Council the authority to enact a five-cent bag fee. As seen in Washington,
DC, and Montgomery County already, the bag fee would go a long way in reducing litter
in the Anacostia, Potomac, and Patuxent River watersheds, as well as along our roads
and in our neighborhoods.
AWS has been working hard in Annapolis to shore up support for the legislation --
