With a pair of good gloves, some trash bags, and tremendous community spirit, an
 Anacostia Watershed Society volunteer can do wonders for the Anacostia riverbanks
and trails. Some volunteers collect up to 100 pounds of trash in just three hours.

On April 20, we will be welcoming an astounding 2,000 volunteers to the  24th annual

our biggest Anacostia River cleanup event of the year. Whether you are volunteering

Our wonderful volunteers do more than collect trash. Last year 6,000 volunteers 
planted over 800 trees, restored acres of wetlands, collected native plant seeds,
built bird nest boxes, and more. Your generous gift today will help us supply thousands
of volunteers on Earth Day, and will sustain volunteers' efforts throughout the 
year.
On Earth Day and every day, think how your support can help our volunteer teams 
heal the Anacostia:
- $35 will buy gloves for a team of four volunteers
- $45 will buy a full tank of gas for our pontoon boat as we collect trash along
 the riverbanks
- $50 will support volunteers as they plant 2 native trees and care for them in 
their first years
- $100 will equip volunteers to plant a flat of wild rice to restore native wetlands
- $250 will nurture 50 tree saplings at our native plant nursery until it is time
for them to be planted
- $500 will help us plant and care for 10 new native trees that will shade the Anacostia
River's banks for a lifetime
Our volunteers tell us they want to be a part of the solution, bringing the Anacostia
back to health, as a home for wildlife and recreational opportunities that we can
all enjoy.
