Hi Bruce –

 

Sounds like Ward 3 so I am copying in CM Lingua so he is aware of the issue.  It would be improper for me to interject on issues in another CM’s ward without their knowledge.

 

A couple of observations:

-if this is an historical observation there isn’t a lot any of us can do about it currently

-camping is governed by chapter 17 of town code and is forbidden without permit.  I.e. if you see tents pitched overnight call it in – the police will take care of it pretty quickly

Walk the NE Branch from where it passes under Riverdale Rd downstream about ~100-200 yards.  Look on the west side of the creek if you want to see some real litter.  The indigents hang out there drinking, socializing, bathing, and washing their cloths.  I believe folks live there in the summer months because I've seen what appears to be tents and make shift shelters. 

 

This has been going on for years.

Enforcement starts with all of us.  Sometimes people need to be reminded what it means to be a good neighbor.  It does the entire town a disservice by not reporting code violations like debris/trash piling up in yards and businesses, peeling paint, illegal parking etc.  I have received a handful of emails in regards to some of these issues and the people coming forward almost seem reluctant or hesitant to say anything.  These are precisely the emails or calls I hope to receive more of since it escalates an issue that town staff or your elected representatives are often times totally unaware about. It is important that the situation be addressed to town staff but equally important that your elected officials are aware of the issues.  Otherwise we are left in the dark about situations that impact our quality of life.
