[RP TownTalk] SPEC presents ONE COMMUNITY EVENT (Sep 27, 2014)

Please see below for information on this wonderful event that Debrah Martin
has worked to bring to us!

If you have a child with a disability (visible or invisible), you know the
challenges that can sometimes come when interacting with the people who
have dedicated their lives to serving the community and keeping us all
safe.

This event was created as a response to the extremely upsetting death of
Ethan Saylor (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tag/robert-ethan-saylor-death/).
Debrah and her colleagues wanted to help us all to understand each other
better.

If you are a person with a disability, or a person who works with the
public, please consider coming out for a day of education and fun, right
here in Prince George's County!

I am excited to announce that ONE Community has become a realized dream of
a group of special needs parents and concerned citizens!. ONE Community will
help special needs children and service providers

(e.g., police, fire fighters, ambulance drivers, hospital workers, etc.)

become more familiar with each other and will hopefully enhance  safety in
the entire community.  It is a day of Fun and Safety Activities for special
needs children, their families and first responders in the community.

The idea of the ONE Community event quickly evolved into a non-profit

organization,

 *SPEC Foundation Inc. (Special People Enhancing Communities). *SPEC has
been networking with businesses and the community at large to support this
cause.

Ardmore Elementary School will be hosting the event and two school board
members, Peggy Higgins and Patricia Eubanks are sponsoring the event with
us.

Children 17 and under will receive  lunch from Shopper's Food Warehouse and
there will be vendors and service organizations disseminating information.
The Coast Guard Auxiliary, Firefighters and others will be providing safety
demonstrations. We need volunteers to help make this a successful event.
