[RP TownTalk] Mosquitoes in rain barrel

We installed a barrel purchased from Loews about a month ago. The spigot isn't working so we have to open the top to gain access to the water. I opened it tonight and it's full of mosquitoes. Has anyone experience this before? What did you do to remedy the situation? Thinking about buying dunks but that doesn't seem like a long term solution. Any suggestions?
