Very sad that you had to see something like that. Hopefully the woman will be ok. That's not the only dangerous intersection - I'm a full-time pedestrian and many's the time I've almost been hit at Route 1 and Queensbury Road and other major intersections around town, even though I cross with the light and the "walk" signal and am in a marked crosswalk. Never fails, I'll be all the way in the crosswalk, if it's dark or inclement weather I carry a lit flashlight, but still, someone will come speeding through a red light, etc., and almost hit me. I saw on the news that in College Park, where there've been fatalities this year on Route 1, they're going to put up a median fence, etc., etc. However, the plain fact is, until everybody - pedestrians, drivers, joggers, people on bikes, etc. - pays full attention to what's around them and obeys the laws when they're out and about, not much will change.

 Hello
In light of past conversation on these lists i
wanted to report that I just saw a woman hit by a car while
crossing crosswalk on east west between riggs and new
hampshire.  i feel partially responsible as I stopped to
let her walk (was heading East) and woman in second lane
also stopped as did the car in 4th lane heading west - she
started crossing and a cab in the third lane who did not see
her was coming very fast and girl also didnt see him.  dont
know what to do.  She was talking and ambulances and police
were on their way. i HATE that intersection. if pedestrians
arent getting hit, then cars are rear-ending each other.
  what more can we do?????
