I'm planning to take my high schooler to this movie short and panel
discussion. I think it's so important for kids to understand how things can
go very quickly wrong, and what to do to avoid getting there in the first
place.

Michael Darden is our pediatrician. He's one of the wisest, most
compassionate people I know. If he thinks this is important, it is.

Dear Friends

A few years ago Mike and I attended Martha's Vineyard Film Festival where
we viewed winning films submitted by film directors and writers. One of
the film shorts, The Tombs, really struck a cord with us. We both thought
it was a great message to bring back to P. G. County kids for them to see a
point of view about how one can get caught up in the "system" and get
charged with crimes not of their doing.

Meanwhile, we have been faced with the Travon Martin tragedy and other
deaths of teens and youth in Florida and around the country. Mike felt that
now is the time to try to sit down and talk to our kids on how to be safe
in our world.

On Saturday, May 17th from 10 to 1 PM at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, we
will be presenting the movie short, The Tombs.
The writer and director, Jerry LeMothe will be with us to talk about he
movie, his vision, and the effect the movie has had on audiences. There
will be a panel discussion with community leaders from the police,
judiciary, and other concerned public figures, Glen Ivey, Reverend Bernard
Fuller, and others to bring their knowledge and information about what to
do and what not to do when faced with a situation that places you in
jeopardy. Please download and print copies of the attached flyer to your
friends, sorors, frat brothers, sports teams, neighbors and co-workers.

An invitation is extended to all my families and family friends, in and
around P.G. County. Please plan to come out and add your voice to parents
and community leaders in the country. I think you will be glad you made
the time.
