You know that billboard on East West Highway between Route 1 and
Kenilworth? It's about to get a whole lot more annoying. The Planning,
Zoning & Economic Development (PZED) Committee of the County Council is
considering legislation that would allow billboards in Prince George's
County to use LED displays.

If you object to this, please contact your county council members and
county executive Rushern Baker. Below are their e-mail addresses:

Oppose CB-73-2014

On September 23, the Planning, Zoning & Economic Development (PZED)
Committee of the County Council will consider CB-73-2014, a bill
which would allow existing grandfathered billboards to be converted
into digital/LED signs. This is the equivalent of converting that old
billboard
you'd like to see torn down and converting it into a giant television screen
in the sky. This is light, visual and signage pollution of the worst sort.

New billboards have been outlawed for some years; the only ones
remaining are "grandfathered". CB-73-2014 would give those eyesores
new life of the most objectionable sort. CM Andrea Harrison should
be ashamed to show her face in public for sponsoring such an abomination.

Every civic-minded citizen and environmentalist in Prince George's County
should rise up in righteous indignation and strongly oppose CB-73-2014.
IHHAAC urges you to attend the PZED Committee meeting next week
to show your opposition with body and voice. At a minimum, email
the County Council and tell them what you think of LED billboards
lighting up the sky along our roadways and in our neighborhoods.
