In the meantime, I know it's a longshot, but do you happen to know anyone
who's hankerin' for a cat?  My friends are moving to Costa Rica next week
(!) and they just found out that their short-term housing will not accept
pets.  They would be willing (and prefer) to retrieve the cat at the
soonest possible juncture, but it would likely be a year before they could,
so they would understand if the new home would prefer to just keep the
cat.  It's a short hair, black and white female, about 6 years old (give or
take, I can't remember exactly). She has lived in their rowhouse with other
cats and small children since they trapped her as a kitten. They're pretty
desperate, so I'm asking anybody I can think of that is remotely a cat
person.
