*ArtsFest2015*
*Artists, Authors, Music, Food & Wine in Riverdale Park's Town Center, May
3, 2015*
*RIVERDALE PARK, MD., April 11, 2015* -- From stained glass and original
oil paintings to hand-made jewelry and authors signings, ArtsFest 2015 has
it all! The 8th annual ArtsFest is the premier gathering sponsored by the
Riverdale Park Arts Council (RPAC) every first Sunday in May. It will be
held this year (rain or shine) from 11 AM to 5 PM on Sunday, May 3, 2015,
next to the MARC Train station in Riverdale Park’s Town Center on Queensbury
Rd..
Once again, ArtsFest is expected to draw more than 1,000 to enjoy several
dozen local artists selling their own original artworks, along with food
vendors and a free, day-long concert featuring blues, jazz, rock, classical
and folk musicians.
The music lineup includes *The Smokin Polecats *and *The Archie Edwards
Blues Heritage Foundation.*
The winner of the fourth annual Gerald King Fine Arts Award will be
announced at the event. The award is given by RPAC to an art student who
shows great promise in realism and is named in honor of the late Gerald
King, a longtime resident of Riverdale Park. The award will be presented
by the inaugural King Award winner, Malika Bryant, along with last year's
winner, Chi Chi Dureke.
ArtsFest has grown to reflect the boom in local talent throughout the Route
1 Arts Corridor and beyond. Paintings both abstract and realistic, pottery
fired by gifted hands, home-made soaps and jewelry, and the living art of
bonsai -- all combine to show the diversity of art forms that will delight
ArtsFest 2015 attendees. The Children’s Pavilion will be bustling with
craft-making and face painting for the young...and young at heart..
Add to that a Writer’s Row, featuring local authors such as Samuel
Williams, who moved to Riverdale Park after publication of his 2012
historical novel, *Anomalous: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes*. Joining
the fabled sleuth are boxer Jack Johnson and gangster Alphonse Capone.
ArtsFest also embraces automobile artists such as Hyattsville native Clark
Bedford, producer of curious yet charming mobile art temples in a
distinctive fusion of gothic and kitch.
There are still a few select slots available to artists, authors and food
vendors.
