*Increase the Peace this Holiday Season!*

You are cordially invited to a one-of-a-kind holiday house party featuring
the work of skilled Afghan artisans.  The handmade jewelry, rugs, and
embroidered goods sold by the Afghan Women’s Fund
<http://www.afghanwomensfund.org/> give twice – first as a beautiful unique
gift item and then as capital for the education, health, and vocational
projects AWF partners with in rural Afghanistan.  These projects are
implemented by Afghan women and work to empower Afghan women and girls.

Bring your friends or family, say hi to your neighbors, enjoy some cookies
and hot chocolate, and find a special gift.  Our house will be a great stop
on the way to or from the Riverdale Park Festival of Lights & Holiday

*Examples of items for sale will include: *

•* Jewelry: *earrings, bracelets, necklaces, some pins & barrettes, plus
traditional ornaments called maktica; a variety of styles including lapis &
carnelian for which Afghanistan is famous; prices range from $5 to $100,
with most in the $15- $40 range

• *Embroidery:* tunics, scarves and shawls, pillow covers, a few bags;
 various styles, most quite bright and lively; prices range from $20 to $60
with one amazing shawl that is $250

• *Carpets*: handmade, mostly knotted wool with a few kilim which are
woven; including carpet pillow covers ($30), placemat size rugs ($20), door
rugs ($40), and a few slightly larger rugs (prices vary)
