*A*rtist, renowned scholar in the field of African-American art and
Hyattsville resident David Driskell, will introduce the movie and join
the discussion following the showing of Rosenwald, a film by Aviva
Kempner. The film is the story of Jewish philanthropist Julius
Rosenwald, who partnered with African-American educator, Booker T.
Washington, to build 5400 Southern schools in African-American
communities in the early part of the 20th century. There were 27 schools
in Prince George's County that received funds from the Rosenwald fund.
The showing of Rosenwald is part of the Library's Independent Film
Series and is sponsored by the Friends of the Hyattsville Library,
Creative Edge Collaborative and the Hyattsville Preservation. Association.
