Hello, all.

I wanted to send a note to everyone and announce a new local news
website: *Hyattsville

<http://hyattsvilletoday.com/> I am the former senior editor of the
*Hyattsville
Life & Times* who launched that website, and in doing so, became passionate
about the local news happening right here in our communities.

This is most certainly a community project.  It's branded "Hyattsville,"
because that's home base, but our hope is that we can tell as many stories
from surrounding communities as possible -- good and bad.  Helpful.
informative, uplifting, as well as the ones that break our hearts.  I have
worked in local news for 12 years and I appreciate so much that it shows us
what is possible.

Every year, I am more convinced that these kinds of local operations are
needed, because it's impossible for residents to attend every meeting and
be everywhere all of the time.  When the Gazette closed its doors,

I said that the responsibility of being an informed was a great burden for
residents to bear.

It's only been two weeks since the http://HyattsvilleToday.com website
became live.  In those two weeks, our communities have mourned, they have
trotted and painted with four paws, they have broken the fast with their
neighbors. We have been there for all of those moments.

But we need your help. I am always personally buried under one or two dozen
stories that I *need* to tell. And there are many stories we haven't been
able to tell, and we need help.  We need those of you who want to write
about what's happening in your community to come forward.  We want to talk
more about Edmonston, Chillum, Bladensburg, etc.  We need people who feel
compelled to keep their communities informed to help us diversify and keep
everyone informed.
