All –

A few years ago the Council sponsored enabling legislation to create a Public Art Initiative in Riverdale Park. This consisted of multiple sculptures around town that are installed on a semi-permanent basis (1-year loan from the artist) and at least one permanent installation.

We engaged the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation as our project managers so as to minimize town administrative time and because this kind of programming is what they do. We just received a progress report including a picture with the following note:
“Please see a photograph just taken of Joanna Blake's Great Blue Herons in progress at the foundry; as part of the Riverdale Park Public Art Initiative. The permanent sculpture will be installed at the JD Williams Office Building, expected in late April/early May.”

I am especially pleased to see programs, many years in the making, come to fruition that serve to shaping the future of Riverdale Park.

Best,

Jonathan
