Bike to Work Day

Friday, May 20 

 

Bike to Work Day started in 1956 and has only grown since then. All over the
United States, "pit stops" have been developed where bike riders can start
their day with a bicycle convoy or end their ride with giveaways and fun.
The goal of getting commuters to try biking to work as a healthy and safe
alternative to driving has grown from "a few hundred in 2001 to over 17,000
participants in 2015." (www.biketowkrmetrodc.org). The event happens rain or
shine (though we want shine...)

Commuter Connections and Washington Area Bicycle Association are the lead
sponsors for this program. Maryland Milestones is proud to support the Pit
Stops at Greenbelt, College Park, and Hyattsville. Details on the program

Laurel to Suitland Federal Center, leaving from Sandy Spring Road and Route
198 Park and Ride and using portions of Route 1 until joining the next
route.
Greenbelt to Freedom Plaza, leaving from Greenbelt Pit Stop and meeting
College Park pit stops and using the Northeast Branch before branching
toward downtown via the Met Branch Trail. 
Glenn Dale to Downtown, leaving from WBA (Glenn Dale Splash Park) and
Greenbelt Road via Route 450 and US Alt 1 to Capital Hill.
