*New Restaurant Set to Open in Town Center By Summer*

*RPMD’s Long-Awaited Dream to Fill Empty Shopping Center Could Be Over*

*Riverdale Park, MD (Feb. 16, 2018)* —The nearly two-decades old epicurean
blight at Riverdale Park’s Town Center may soon be over. An area resident
has leased an estimated 2,600 square feet on the ground floor of the red
brick building on the corner of Queensbury Road and Rhode Island Avenue
from Douglas Development. The new tenant hopes to open a restaurant,
perhaps as early as summer.

hopes to open a restaurant, perhaps as early as summer.

“We are bringing a new restaurant concept to Riverdale Park’s
Town Center,” Annie Ha Esguerra told *The Biz* in an exclusive interview. A
California transplant, Esguerra said Banana Blossom Bistro will be “modern,
authentic, Vietnamese cuisine,” and she described the 46-seat operation as
“upscale, fast, casual dining.” There will be no servers, and Esguerra
called the dining area “sort of like Chipotle”—but emphasized “upscale.”

She’s no rookie to the demanding restaurant business. If fact,
Esguerra is a third-generation operator. Her grandparents operated a dining
establishment in Saigon. Her parents fled Vietnam after the fall of Saigon
in 1975 and had a long, harrowing, overseas journey to America. They
arrived with nothing but today, but despite being divorced, she said, her
parents operate five full-service Vietnamese restaurants: two in
California’s capital city, Sacramento, and three in San Jose. All five
serve Vietnamese family recipes, Esguerra said. Banana Blossom Bistro will
likely have the same style food, she said, but it will be “presented
differently” and the menu will rely on “five or six family recipes.”

The new entity is currently going through “the permitting process”
Esguerra said; the anticipated spring opening now appears to be delayed
until summer. She also expects to have outdoor dining.

other new prospects underway at other nearby Douglas Development
properties, look for the complete issue of *The Biz* next week.
