[RP TownTalk] Proposed legislation to allow non citizens to vote in RP before council Mar 8 @ 6:30pm

I attended the meeting last night so as to have an understanding of the proposed amended legislation and my take away was (1) have the non- citizens who currently reside in our town to be able to vote in town matters and have a voice; and (2) allow 16 year olds to vote. The non-citizens point specifically to undocumented residents. My thoughts are why would the non-citizens who we were told have been living here for over 20+ years and never gained citizenship even bother to become a citizen when they currently enjoy all the other benefits of citizenship e.g., food stamps, education, medical. If the doors to all these benefits are already wide open to them, why not add voting to the list too? Sorry but I do not agree with this proposed legislation.
Thank you,
Sherene
