[RP TownTalk] Policing / Trash

I wonder if the police have been made aware of these particular concerns.  I wonder how much it would cost to add personnel that could patrol through the evening, say from 10 - 3; when they see anyone hanging around the could stop to say 'hello', see if there is trash, instruct the people to pick up the trash...

  Wishful thinking?  Yes.  Though we do not have the same types of trash, we have the same issue here of people hanging out and throwing their refuse on the street. I've often thought of making a sign "Tu basura es no me basura"  Your trash is not my trash.  A play on the "Me casa" saying.  I'm not picking on our Hispanic neighbors, but the people that I see doing this are Hispanic, and the beer cans are always Hispanic labels.  Hope and I often pick it up, and when we go walk we try to remember to bring a sack and gloves...

  What does our wonderful police force think CAN be done?  What are the laws regarding littering in Riverdale Park?  Would signs reminding people about keeping our town respectful looking help?  Does anyone know what other municipalities have done about this problem?

I have a similar problem because I live by the big parking lot of what used to be Citizens bank. Because it is not well lit, I almost constantly have to chase off happy little couples and drug dealers. My fence has been graffittied (sp) twice and there is litter constantly being thrown into my yard. I know we don't have the police force big enough to patrol all these deserted areas constantly, so I make sure that I try to be as proactive about watching my area as I can. I have suggested to Jamal's group to install cameras, but you know I have no luck with them.

To add to Karens note, my husband
walks the dog with a trash can in hand
picking up the condoms, mens/ladies
underwear, and the regular trash along
the way along Lafayette by the Field of
Dreams and the parking lots behind
the Field of Dreams. People leave their
teashirts, shorts, beer and whatever.
They sit in the bushes in front the RR
tracks eating and drinking & leaving 
their trash (down by the side gate to
the old Noah Bldg). And I have found
needles floating in Gossling Pond.
