I am a bit concern about our little community of Riverdale Park. Prior
to the WWW, Town Talk, and the Riverdale Wiki, Riverdale Park Day was a
well known event. It was of great concern to any Riverdalian who was
proud to live here. I'm not the most community involved person and it
took many years before I understood the importance of the Riversdale
Mansion as a cultural treasure around which people of Riverdale Park
could unite and enjoy each others company. Riverdale Park Day, the day
the Mansion grounds were opened up for a community festival, has always
been a special event not only for Riverdale Park, but the entire
Washington Metropolitan Area.
Well, what happened? Today I see hardly a mention of it in any of the
community communication vehicles. Only the Riverdale Business
Association brought it up on Town Talk. I don't see it on the Wiki. I
haven't seen any banners or posters around town. The Town Crier had a
little ad, but it was eclipsed by the full page photo display of
National Night Out.
This is not to criticize the organizers and volunteers who are putting
on Riverdale Park Day. They are greatly appreciated by the Town and me.
I only wish I had been better informed of the event. Perhaps some
history, some pictures of prior Riverdale Park Days, some comments from
all of the council members besides Keelah of Ward 6. I guess the
helicopter will not land this year, but I'm looking forward to some
good music and some a lot of good company. Gerald King
