I've heard many people joke over the years using the expression, "I love my 
job so much I would come to work even if they didn't pay me."

I wonder if some people, who are paid to perform extraneous functions at 
the town council meetings, would attend even if they we're being paid.

Not everyone can attend every town council meeting and it certainly 
shouldn't indicate a lack of interest on their part concerning the 
decisions that are made in their absence.
