[RP TownTalk] Queens Chapel Road

When they dug the Metro tunnel from College Park to PG Plaza, they went
under Queens Chapel Road, and peoples' brick houses settled, twisted and
cracked. If you walk (or drive or bike) along the flat part at the bottom
of the hill, you can see the huge cracks along the fronts. A good friend of
mine grew up there, and his family's house was one of them. They lobbied
pretty hard to close the road, and in fact I believe the town acquired the
road from the state for this very purpose and no other.

I think closing Queensbury to non-local traffic would be a death-knell for
Dumms, and I do not want that at all. I think the solution may be
two-fold: fixing Route 1 and 410 to lessen the urge to 'cut-through', as
well as maybe making it suck more, if you do: speed bumps, stop signs at
every corner, very low speed limit with a rack of expensive ticket-cameras
maybe? On the other hand, I know this would be a drag for those living
further into the neighborhood than me.

I live on Queensbury between Route 1 and the tracks, and will say that when
I am northbound on Route 1, it is a rare day that I make it to Queensbury
without ditching and cutting through - often as far south as Cleveland, and
almost certainly by Oliver or Riverdale. Route 1 is nightmarish.
