Bladensburg Waterfront Park for the Battle of Bladensburg: A Bicentennial
Celebration on Saturday, August 25, 2012.
Tour the new Battle of Bladensburg Visitor Center that commemorates one of the
most significant battles and American defeats of the War of 1812 and highlights
Prince George's County's involvement in what is often referred to as the
"Forgotten War."
The celebration will also feature interactive exhibits, costumed re-enactors,
period music, black powder demonstrations, encampments, and cannon fire.
Participate in hands-on activities such an interactive Shipwright, Camp
Surgeon, and Impressment Station. Learn what role free and enslaved African
Americans had in the conflict. Visit local and statewide War of 1812
organizations and find out about other events that are being planned to
commemorate the Bicentennial, In addition, there will be food vendors, guided
boat tours, and other family-friendly activities!
The Battle of Bladensburg Visitor Center and Waterfront Park are part of The
Star-Spangled banner National Historic Trail. Stop by and experience the
dramatic events and stories your County has to tell!
