[RP TownTalk] Safeway enters race to open first yup-scale supermarket in region

I don't usually shop at Safeway as their prices are a bit high for my budget; too, I don't drive and the closest Safeway is in Greenbelt, so that means changing buses a couple of times or a pricey taxi fare.

That being said; Safeway DOES occasionally have some good sales so if they would open a new store near the PG Plaza Metro, that would be very convenient for me and many other people.  AND it's going to be built at an existing business site -  we won't have to see more woodland cut down.  As it's just presumably one store, the traffic flow in the area shouldn't get too much worse.  All in all, this sounds like a pretty good deal, ya think?

Subject: [RP TownTalk] Safeway enters race to open first yup-scale supermarket in region

Less than two years after ending its century-long presence in Hyattsville, Safeway has decided to re-enter the emerging market with a two-story supermarket with rooftop parking at Hyattsville's University Town Center.  The "Lifestyle"-branded store will vie with Whole Foods, inching forward with its Riverdale Park project, to open the first up-market grocery in the Route 1 communities.  Read about it in the Hyattsville Life & Times' August issue:

Also in the August edition, the remarkable story of the Prince George's County Pool, which rose in the past several years from near-closure to having a waiting list longer than its membership roster; the amazing journey of the Northwestern High School choir, on a performance tour in South Africa; a Hyattsville code-compliance officer gets his mug on a trading card; a preview of the Battle of Bladensburg encampment at Riversdale later this month; and lots more.
