Very interesting; sounds like the wider community needs to know details and provide input to our respective governing bodies.  My first question would be, "Why was Cafritz given the go ahead without a storm water solution in place?"  Who is going to pay?  The questions could go on at length....

    Nina, thanks for sharing this.

HECYes:
The 9 ponds solution was promoted by University Park and Riverdale Park. It would use a developable parcel in Hyattsville near PG metro station to fix a problem that does not exist in Hyattsville. The 9ponds parcel should be built up to take environmentally correct advantage of mass transit. The 9ponds idea was promoted by one developer who proposed that his stormwater problem would be solved by using another developer’s property (the 9ponds site) as the receiver of his runoff. This was a sweet deal for him. It should be stopped.

Now we have the new Cafritz megadevelopment in Riverdale Park that could be thought of addind to the runoff problem. However, developers are required by modern stormwater regulations to manage the stormwater impact of their projects. This applies to new projects in Hyattsville and Riverdale Park, It will also apply to redevelopment projects in the future. As exisitng parcels in Hyattsville (such as PG Plaza and nearby parking lots) are eventually redeveloped, they will have to manage their stormwater impact better than is done by the current development. As redevelopment proceeds, stormwater impact of developed property in Hyattsville will actually decrease.
