Did you read the voter expansion legislation? Before you make comments on it, I suggest you read it.

Bruce,

i believe you read Mr Salgadoe's email incorrectly - he was saying that our country is becoming hateful towards immigrants and from what I see on the news - with families being torn apart/ICE raids etc - I absolutely agree.

My grandparents on my mom's side were immigrants (from the Azores) and so was my dad for a while until we moved back to Portugal. I assume you know as I do that back when our grandparents were immigrating here the rules were different. To compare immigrants from 100 years ago to those immigrating now is kind of apples and oranges. To be more precise, our grandparents would have a very difficult time getting naturalized now - regardless of how hard they worked. Generally, permission to enter and stay in the country as a documented immigrant is limited to people who are highly trained in a skill that is in short supply here and have been offered a job by a U.S. employer, are escaping political persecution, are joining close family already here or are winners of the green-card lottery. My grandparents were dirt poor and you say yours had nothing - so it is likely none would get naturalized nowadays - and because they were poor would probably be labeled by some as deadbeat welfare suckers that offer nothing to our country.

Immigrants now are working hard, they just don't have the benefit of a system that was letting just about anyone in and giving them documents. Many are here legally and with green cards. They pay taxes. In fact, they contribute more in taxes than they receive in government benefits. To insinuate that immigrants now are somehow lazy or inferior to immigrants "back in the day" is flat out wrong.

Hateful towards people like our ancestors!!!!!!!!!! Who are you to define what is hateful???????. With all due respect, please keep your "hateful" dialogue to yourself.

My grandparents and father immigrated from Poland. They had nothing when they arrived in this country. There was no welfare, social services, SNAP, etc. at that time. The US or it's citizens were not "hateful" toward them because they didn't get to vote, they didn't get welfare, they didn't get food stamps. They worked hard, became naturalized citizens, and were successful as a result of their own efforts and sacrifice. That's the meaning of pride and dignity from where I stand Andrew Salgadoe and there's nothing "hateful" about it.

I am grateful to this country and it's people for all that I have. How about you?

Bruce

I'm all for bringing undocumented immigrants into the system by letting them vote, apply for driver licenses, getting insurance, having access to public education, etc etc.

This will lead to less crime, more inclusivity, people coming out of the shadows, paying more taxes, and becoming proud Riverdale Park residents.

We need to change the trend in our country, a country of immigrants, becoming hateful towards people just like our ancestors, parents, and grandparents who were just trying to find a better life for their families.
